How It Works
- Carbon Filtering: Our City Smart Water Softener has a unique feature for chemical removal. The first section of the mineral tank is filled with catalytic carbon that effectively eliminates unwanted chemicals such as chlorine and chloramine, common in most municipal water supplies.
- Ion Exchange: After hard water enters through the inlet pipe and flows through the catalytic carbon, it hits the resin bed. The resin, covered in sodium ions, swaps these ions with with calcium and magnesium ions, creating soft water.
- Soft Water Distribution: The newly softened water circulates throughout your home via the outlet pipe.
- System Regeneration: Over time, the resin’s sodium ions deplete, and the system triggers a regeneration process. This is based on hardness level and water consumption.
- Regeneration: During regeneration, the system flushes out dirt, refreshes the resin with a high concentration salt solution from the brine tank, and rinses the resin. The brine tank then refills, preparing for the next cycle.

We are very happy with our water quality and water softener.
We had a leak in the kitchen sink that the leak protector detected. The issue was fixed before any damage happened.
Our water is softer and our appliances are receiving better quality water to extend life. The remote features through the Drop Connect App. help us better understand water usage/waste and any potential problems. I like the ability to control the parameters for continuous flow warning notifications. I also like the ability to shut off the water remotely if needed. You just never know when something might happen. The leak detectors give peace of mind and wish to buy more. The leak detectors also give a location room temperature reading which I use often. I’m happy with the purchase.
Two times a leaky toilet was identified. Cool technology. Also my swimming pool auto refill was stuck open, and I was alerted to continuous water flow and found the source before wasting too much water and money.
I purchased the DROP system because the city water coming into my home has an orange tint at times and would taste horrible. The combination of a water softener and backwashing carbon filter has completely eliminated my problems.
In the year my system has been installed it has identified problems with toilets at least 3 times. One toilet has a tendency of the flapper chain getting twisted and will run 2 gallons per minute continuously. Instead of wasting and paying for thousands of gallons of water, I’ve been able to correct that problem right away. It has also saved me a few times when I was adding water to the swimming pool and forgot about it.
I have been very happy with this softener. It was easy install and set up. The data it provides and the home damage protection it gives me is just what I was looking for.
The system quickly alerted me of a leak under my kitchen sink. This saved me time and money because I didn’t have to replace anything.
We purchased the 48K Drop City Softener because of the remote manageability, rich feature set, and Chandler support. It has been in service almost two months. This was our first water softener. Before we purchased the softener, our water hardness was 7 gpg and was leaving hard water deposits on our sinks and fixtures. We were replacing our hot water heater with a tankless Rinnai and the Rinnai manual stated – “If you install this water heater in an area that is known to have hard water or that causes scale build-up, the water must be treated and may require a more frequent flushing schedule. Damage caused by lime build-up is not covered by the water heater’s warranty.”. After reading that, we decided it was time to purchase a water softener.
Before and after our Drop City Softener purchase, I spoke by phone and email on multiple questions that Chandler support promptly answered. During and after the softener installation, the app and drop.io website provide setup configuration, real time current water flow, average daily gallon usage, soft water remaining in gallons, event log, and numerous charts. I was able to configure and customize all the softener settings in the app using my phone or on my PC using the drop.io website. I love the app. I upgraded each components firmware after they were added to the system. The system sends me SMS txt messages and emails on issues including when the salt is low. The Drop Control Valve and Drop Hub have battery backup in case of a power failure. I configured the leak detectors to turn off the water to the entire house if they detect water. I can turn off/on the water to the entire house or bypass the softener using the app or website. There is a Remote Assistance option on the website that states: “Remote assistance allows our support technicians to temporarily access your DROP system remotely. This will allow our support technicians to see your DROP system’s logs and settings to quickly diagnose an issue or assist with setup. Please note that you must call our support line in order for our support technicians to see your request.”. That is a nice feature. The Drop Connect app and website are invaluable.
Because we only use approximately 100 gallons of water/day during the winter, my first regen did not happen until 50 days after installation. I configured the softener to regen based on “soft water remaining” and not to regen after x number of days. This saved on salt consumption and water. My water hardness was 7 gpg before the softener was installed. The water hardness was 0 gpg after the softener install. I tested it 50 days later, before the first regen, and the water hardness was still 0 gpg. I use a Hach drop count titrator kit to measure the water hardness.
I have two sets of valves mounted above the softener. They allow me to send “soft water” or “untreated water” to my two outside spigots independently. I use soft water when washing the vehicles to prevent hard water spotting and untreated water when watering the plants and watering the grass.
My only regret is I didn’t install this softener sooner.
We are very pleased with our DROP City Water Softener. We’ve noticed a major improvement in the quality of our water. We no longer have the mineral build up in our sinks, faucets, etc. Also, our skin feels much better after we take a shower.
It gives us peace of mind knowing that the DROP System is doing a great job filtering and conditioning our water. We no longer hesitate grabbing a glass of water from our faucet as we know the water is safe to drink.
The water leak detection system is an awesome feature as well. We had a slight water pipe leak under our kitchen sink and we were notified immediately via a text message to our cell phones. We were able to correct the issue asap.
